Degassing a 200 Foot Gasoline Tank in Deer Park, TX
Full LEL reduction achieved, carbon consumption significantly reduced, regulatory compliance maintained throughout
In late 2004, at a major petrochemical plant in Deer Park, Texas, Vapor Tech was called in to degas a 200 foot diameter above ground storage tank that had previously held gasoline. The challenge was controlling the significant volume of hydrocarbon vapors released during the degassing process while keeping the operation within environmental compliance.
Vapor Tech deployed a rental vapor scrubber system consisting of three packed columns followed by a 4,000 pound carbon adsorber. The scrubber system continuously re circulated Vapor Tech's CARBONIL Hydrocarbon Encapsulator — a water based degassing agent designed to lower LEL and suppress emissions from hydrocarbons. This re circulation dramatically reduced overall carbon consumption, lowering the operational cost of the project.
The system achieved full regulatory compliance throughout the degassing operation, protecting plant workers and the surrounding community from hazardous hydrocarbon emissions.
